Tobago Street originally ran from 471 London Road to 502 Gallowgate, and is named after the West Indian island of the same name. It was previously known as Struthers Street and was named after Robert Struthers, who owned a brewery in the area, and was a one time Provost of Calton. Nos 75/77 = store and stables built in 1905 for James Fraser, rag merchant. Later became the premises of J.C. walker, manufacturing chemists. 45/51 = Calton Works, built c1850 for T. & J. Hamilton, bobbin turners. later became the premises of The Calton Cabinet Works Ltd, then N.H.E. Caplan Ltd., furniture manufacturers. 58/72 = tramway stables built around 1883 for Glasgow Tramway Omnibus Company. Later became the premises of W.D. & H.O. Wills Ltd., cigarette manufacturers. 86/92 = Eastern District Police Station, built in 1869 to a design by John Carrick. 113 = Globe Music Halls. In 1910 became the Paragon Cinema and seated 683.
