- F. O. Woodrow Hostetler Presumed Dead
Flying Officer Woodrow Hostetler is now reported presumed dead, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hostetler. Only a few weeks ago he was reported missing. The sad news is reported to have come through Red Cross channels, but no particulars are as yet forthcoming.
New Hamburg Independent, August 25, 1944
- In the area of EICHEDE which includes LASBEK - DORF and LASBEK - GUT and a/c crashed about 01.15 hrs. in the morning of the 29th July, 1944. No witnesses could be found who saw the a/c before the explosion which followed. It crashed near the farm house of Heir MEIN who saw only two bodies near the wreckage. A short distance away two more bodies were found, apparently they had baled out, but the parachutes failed to open fully. During the harvesting some three weeks later another body was found and taken to the cemetery at EICHEDE and buried with the rest of the crew.
